Carved from crotch-wood of a 100 year old maple, the form of these rustic stools relates a story of it's not too distant past. Before the tree was milled, sawn, routed and finished, it once stood tall and mighty, a giant among oaks in a rural yard. Off the end of a far reaching branch, a 60 foot rope-swing sent children sailing through the air, lifting them nearly 20 feet off the ground before the pendulum motion hurtled them back to the grassy floor. The soaring swing was a favorite throughout the neighborhood. But a thunderous snowstorm took down the magnificent maple, crashing it's canopy into the neighboring house, and shearing off the Northern wall. When the children awoke in the morning to find their house wide open to the elements, the damage was of no concern, they only lamented the loss of their legendary swing.
In memoriam, these stools are designed with a sense of playfulness and a reverence for the wood's unique color and figure.
